A healthy weight is essential to maintaining overall health. Obesity
can lead to many more conditions such as diabetes, joint pain, high
blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels. The Center for
Comprehensive Weight Management utilizes a team approach for patients
battling obesity, including medical supervision, surgical intervention
(for qualified candidates), counseling and support groups, nutrition

Key Program
Anyone interested in obtaining information about the IU Surgical Weight Management Center at Wishard is welcome to register for the Key Program. Every potential candidate for surgery must attend a Key Program before the consultation appointment is scheduled with a surgeon.
This program is a free 3- to 4- hour educational session about:
- The surgical procedure
- Requirements necessary to be considered a candidate for surgery
- Risks and benefits of surgery
- The postoperative diet
- The lifestyle change
- The hospital stay
- Insurance issues
Participants also have an opportunity to meet the members of the bariatric team including surgeons, nurses and dietitians. The Key Program is offered at least once a month.
