Performance improvement, system analysis and peer review are all hallmark activities of the IU/Wishard Level 1 Trauma Center. A dedicated Trauma Registry is an integral component, which enables continued quality analysis of our performance. Information entered into the trauma database is utilized in organizational improvements and research. In 2003, the Trauma Center’s annual data was approved for inclusion in the American College of Surgeons’ National Trauma Data Bank. This database will be utilized nation wide for trauma center benchmarking and as a standard for performance improvement initiatives. The IU/Wishard Level I Trauma Center was honored to be one of the organizations selected for inclusion in this important work and continues to provide data on a yearly basis to the National Trauma Data Bank.
