RelayHealth messages differ from regular email in that they transmit securely and confidentially. While RelayHealth is available through the Web, it's far better tuned to the communication needs of healthcare than email, and it's far more secure. Regular email relies on multiple servers distributed across the Internet; RelayHealth uses a single, centrally managed database for all doctor-patient communications. Unlike regular email, RelayHealth messages are never stored anywhere but on the secure RelayHealth servers, and they cannot be read en route, deleted, copied, or altered in any way.

Even though RelayHealth allows you to send messages at any time of the day or night, your message is responded to during normal business hours for your healthcare provider's office. Your doctor or his/her office staff will provide a response according to the following timeframes.

RelayHealth service uses a high level of security to protect the privacy and confidentiality of health care information transmitted through its messaging service. All information transmitted through RelayHealth is encrypted, which means the information is password protected, so only you, your physician and his/her staff can view your information. There is no charge for using RelayHealth to communicate with your doctor and his/her staff or for maintaining a personal health record.
