S.T.O.P. - Stop Taking On Pounds
Stop being a couch potato. Stop unhealthy food choices. Stop taking on pounds.
S.T.O.P. is a six-month program for children between the ages of 8 and 15 years old that uses a family approach to weight management. Registered dietitians and fitness professionals assist participants in adopting a healthier lifestyle by developing a nutrition plan, making healthier food choices and finding fun ways to be more physically active.
For the first 10 weeks, kids attend weekly after-school sessions at a Wishard health center with their parent or guardian. For the next three months, participants attend monthly groups filled with fun activities until they graduate from S.T.O.P.
The S.T.O.P. program is geared toward kids and adolescents who like to have fun. S.T.O.P. members can also expect weekly gifts including jump ropes, hula hoops, and t-shirts, all for participating in the program.
Meeting activities include:
- Taste testing healthy food and drink choices
- Playing the Wii or other interactive video games
- Learning healthy recipes
- Group games
- Fun group fitness
- Jump rope
The S.T.O.P. program meets at Forest Manor Health Center and Pecar Health Center (Spanish-speaking coaches available). S.T.O.P. is funded by the St. Margaret's Hospital Guild and Picower Foundation.
