Wishard Health Services

High Quality Care for All

Wishard Health Services is very proud of the high quality care it provides to the Indianapolis community. A few examples of the organization's outstanding attributes appear below:

  • Wishard Health Services was cited in 2007 as a national model for patient safety, along with the Indianapolis Coalition for Patient Safety, for involvement in the 100,000 Lives Campaign. The 100,000 Lives Campaign is the first-ever national campaign to promote saving a specific number of lives in hospitals through the implementation of proven, evidence-based, practices and procedure.
  • Wishard Health Services was listed as one of Indiana's top rated hospitals in the November 2006 issue of Indiana Business Magazine. The ratings were conducted by HealthGrades Inc. and included hospitals with five or more five-star ratings (top rating) in 28 procedures or diagnoses.
  • In 2007, Wishard Health Services became one of the first hospitals in the country to utilize new electronic medical technology that allows primary care physicians the ability to check whether patients with certain conditions are receiving the recommended follow-up tests or treatments. The new system, created by the Indiana Health Information Exchange, provides valuable information electronically for doctors to look collectively at their patients’ medical history.
  • In February 2007, Wishard Health Services was recognized for its efforts in workforce diversity by Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson with the Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Award in the category of "workforce diversity."
  • An article in the June 22, 2007 edition of The Indianapolis Star ranked Wishard Health Services as having the lowest heart-failure death rate of all Indianapolis hospitals. The data was released by www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov and area hospitals.
  • A study published by Gannett News Agency in 2006 rated Wishard Health Services as a four star hospital for patients receiving the recommended care for heart attack and heart failure cases.
  • In May of 2007, Wishard Health Services was selected to receive the Department of Health and Human Services Medal of Honor for outstanding performance in organ donation. This award is a high honor presented by Indiana Organ Procurement Organization (IOPO), a nonprofit health service dedicated to advancing organ, tissue and eye donation throughout Indiana.
