The Wishard Experience
“My stay was perfect. I wouldn’t tell anyone to go any other place.”
A tumor was discovered in my brain in January 2010. The brain tumor caused memory loss that affected my job performance, and by March 2010, I had lost my job and had no insurance. As the tumor grew in size, it further impaired my memory and speech and had to be removed. When I found out I had to have brain surgery, the doctor explained everything thoroughly. During my stay in the hospital, the staff was always responsive and did everything to make me comfortable. I was treated great as a patient. You get the best care at Wishard.
“The care I have received at Wishard has really made a difference.”
I had recently relocated to Indiana and needed my blood pressure medicine, but it was just too expensive. After learning about the Wishard Advantage program, I talked to a financial representative and received the prescription I needed that same day. A patient navigator from Wishard’s Blackburn Health Center also connected me to a physician that following week. The care I have received at Wishard has really made a difference. I look forward to going to my appointments at Blackburn Health Center. It’s convenient to my home, I enjoy the friendly atmosphere and I have been very satisfied with my treatment.
“Wishard is a great hospital. Why wouldn’t I come here? This is the place to get the best care.”
I first came to Wishard in 1977 to give birth to my son. In September 2009, during the week of my birthday, I was diagnosed with an incurable but treatable form of breast cancer. I now attend the Infusion Clinic for weekly infusion treatments. I feel better, I feel safe, I look forward to coming here. When I’m sitting here I’m the safest that I feel any other time of the week. We’re like a big family. I’ve become friends with other patients and looks forward to cheering up those who are in the waiting room.
“Without Wishard, I wouldn’t be here. They gave me my life back.”
In 2006, I was diagnosed with colon cancer and Wishard has been amazing every step of the way. Within weeks, I began treatment that included a total of three surgeries. I am now cancer-free and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Wishard. From the front desk to the surgeons, I was treated with respect, compassion and kindness. The quality of care is amazing. During treatment, the staff was sensitive to my needs and never made me feel uncomfortable. I love being a part of a teaching hospital.
“I like the treatment I’ve received here. I was tremendously impressed.”
After I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus – a condition where fluid builds up in the brain – I had a shunt installed to drain the excess fluid. Although my condition improved after this procedure, my doctor referred me to the Fit program at Wishard because I was having trouble with my balance and was falling two to three times per day. I now attend physical therapy sessions two days per week, and as a result, now, I only fall once a week. I like the treatment I’ve received here. I was tremendously impressed.
“The staff has always been nice, pleasant and caring. I even have friends who use Wishard now.”
I was referred to Dr. George at Wishard for an ostomy reversal in 2009. I’ve had wonderful treatment – from the doctors, to tests, to everything else at Wishard. I now attend Wishard’s North Arlington Health Center for subsequent treatment as it is closer to my home. Whether at the main hospital or the community health center, the staff has always been nice, pleasant and caring. I even have friends who use Wishard now.
