Indianapolis, February 9, 2009 – The Ruth Lilly Philanthropic Foundation has awarded the Our Kids, Our Community endowment campaign two gifts totaling $60,000 in recent months.  These gifts will help Wishard Health Services treat some of the most vulnerable citizens - at-risk children.

"This funding is vital as we continue to serve the at-risk children of our community," commented Jim Wood, president and chief executive officer of the Wishard Foundation."Wishard is a leader in providing high-quality healthcare no matter your income or insurance status.  That service is strengthened by the generous contributions of individuals and organizations such as the Ruth Lilly Philanthropic Foundation."

Nearly all of the young people seen at Wishard have special needs related to poverty. Wishard caregivers and donors support these members of society who are often helpless.  Several years ago, a group of volunteer fundraisers and physicians established the Our Kids, Our Community endowment. Income from this endowment helps fund crucial pediatric programs at Wishard such as the Adolescent Medicine Program, serving teens in 15 locations countywide.

The Wishard Foundation wants to ensure that all children in Indianapolis have access to quality medical treatment through Wishard Health Services.  Interest income from the Our Kids, Our Community endowment will serve as a funding source, allowing Wishard to meet the needs of the most vulnerable citizens in the Indianapolis community.

The gift from the Ruth Lilly Foundation was added to over $300,000 in contributions from individuals, corporations and other foundations
