Two recent grants will help the Wishard Foundation in its efforts to assist Wishard Health Services in the delivery of superior public healthcare to the citizens of Marion County.

The Nicholas H. Noyes, Jr. Memorial Foundation and the Eli Lilly & Company Foundation earlier this summer awarded the Wishard Foundation funds totaling over $100,000.

"We are honored that significant community partners have demonstrated faith in Wishard’s excellence by investing in the important work of the Foundation," said James P. Wood, president and chief executive officer of the Wishard Foundation.

The Nicholas H. Noyes, Jr. Memorial Foundation has been a long-time supporter of the Wishard Foundation, providing considerable support for general operations for the past eight years. The foundation has generously renewed its support with a $70,000 grant for the "I Stand with Wishard" campaign. The "I Stand with Wishard" campaign is an effort to raise support and awareness for Wishard Health Services and its care for the uninsured and low-income populations of Marion County.

Nicholas H. Noyes (1883 - 1977) was the first comptroller of Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis. In 1951 he, along with his wife Marguerite Lilly Noyes, established the family foundation to memorialize their son, who died tragically in 1939 at the age of 28.

In addition, the Eli Lilly & Company Foundation recently provided a $35,000 grant for Midtown Community Mental Health Center, a division of Wishard Health Services. Specifically, the grant will enable Midtown to educate over 200 mental health professionals on findings, research and best practices related to the effects of childhood trauma on mental well-being later in life; train select Midtown staff on these best practice treatments; program the trauma assessment and outcome measurement tools onto Midtown's computer system; and develop a process for identifying, tracking and analyzing clinical patient outcomes. Midtown offers an array of mental health services including severe mental illness and substance abuse treatment, 24-hour emergency services, a detoxification program, full continuum of care for chronically addicted patients, specialized home- and community-based programs for seriously emotionally disturbed children and adolescents and a partial-hospitalization program.

In 1968, Eli Lilly and Company established the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation, Inc. The Lilly Foundation is a tax-exempt private foundation that awards cash grants to support philanthropic initiatives that are aligned with the company’s business strategy.

The Wishard Memorial Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness that support healthcare initiatives benefiting residents of Marion County with special emphasis on its poor and vulnerable populations. The Foundation was established in 1985 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
