Indianapolis, February 2, 2006 - On Monday, February 20 at 1 p.m., the IU Surgical Weight Management Center at Wishard invites the public to attend a free educational seminar about bariatric surgery, a medical procedure used to help those struggling with severe obesity and achieve lasting weight loss. The "Key Program" is a free 3 1/2-hour educational seminar covering the requirements to be a candidate for surgery, the surgical procedures, risks and benefits of surgery, postoperative diet, lifestyle changes and insurance issues.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to meet the IU Surgical Weight Management team including the surgeons, nurses and dietitian. As the first in Indiana to ever perform a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, the IU Surgical Weight Management Center at Wishard offers a comprehensive approach to care for patients with severe obesity.
Space in the Key Program is limited, so interested persons must call to register before attending. Prospective patients are welcome to bring family members and friends. To register and for directions to the seminar, please call 317-630-2524. The seminar will be held in the Multipurpose Room at Wishard Memorial Hospital, 1001 W. 10th St. Information is also available at www.IUBariatrics.org.
